Who is Phoebe?

I often describe myself as a small island girl with big dreams.

I was born and raised in Antigua and Barbuda, and grew up in a large family as the eldest girl among eight siblings. Life was not always easy, but those experiences shaped the resilience, ambition, and determination that continue to guide me today. From a young age, I felt a deep responsibility to show my younger siblings that where we start in life does not have to define where we end up.

At 18 years old, I left the Caribbean with a British passport, hope, and a dream to create a bigger future for myself. Since then, I have lived in the UK, Greece, Spain, and now Denmark, experiences that have shaped my global perspective and deep appreciation for culture, community, and belonging.

Today, I serve as Director, Head of Design Community & Events at the LEGO Group. I hold a degree in Events Management and Tourism, although my educational journey came with challenges. I struggled in school due to dyslexia and dyspraxia, and for many years I questioned my own abilities. Looking back now, those experiences taught me perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of believing in myself even when the path is difficult.

Outside of my career, I am deeply passionate about youth leadership, mentorship, and creating opportunities for others. I have been part of Junior Chamber International (JCI) for more than 10 years, serving in multiple leadership roles. I am now in a season where mentoring and supporting the next generation of leaders truly energises me.

Life in Denmark

I have lived in Denmark for the past five years after relocating from the UK for love. Moving to a new country was both exciting and challenging. While I felt welcomed by my husband Michael’s family and my JCI Denmark family, navigating Danish systems and public services often made me feel like I did not fully belong. There were moments where I genuinely questioned whether there was space for someone like me here.

Joining the LEGO Group changed that experience for me. Working in an international environment where I could contribute fully in English gave me a sense of calm, confidence, and belonging. From day one, I felt empowered to focus on doing meaningful work and bringing my full self into my role. Living in Denmark has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building your own sense of community wherever you are in the world.

Achievements and career journey

Achievements

One of my greatest personal achievements was launching and running the North West Charity Awards in the UK. What started as a small idea to celebrate charities and individuals supporting vulnerable communities grew into one of the region’s biggest celebrations of the voluntary sector. Seeing the impact of that platform and watching incredible people finally receive the recognition they deserved was deeply meaningful to me.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from that experience is this: never underestimate the power of a small idea backed by courage. Sometimes the things we doubt the most become the very things that create the greatest impact.

Professionally, one of my proudest moments has been being trusted by my colleagues to represent them as an employee representative on the board of LEGO System A/S. To me, that represented trust, leadership, and the value of bringing authentic perspectives into important spaces.

Throughout my journey, I have been fortunate to build incredible connections, create meaningful experiences, and contribute to communities that have shaped who I am today.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges I faced was overcoming my own self-limiting beliefs. For a long time, I allowed fear, doubt, and insecurity to shape how I saw myself. But everything changed when I realised that I was in control of my own future. Once I began building confidence and believing in my own value, I found the courage to step forward, speak up, and embrace opportunities that once felt out of reach.

That mindset shift changed my life.
I believe four key things have contributed to my growth and success:

  • Consistency and learning how to overcome frustration
  • Confidence and audacity
  • Bravery
  • Doing the work, even when it is difficult

Key contributors to Success

One of the most transformative decisions I have made has been learning to become more intentional about what I say yes and no to. For years, I focused on pleasing others and trying to fit in. Over time, I realised that true happiness and growth come from fully embracing who I am rather than shrinking myself to make others comfortable. Choosing authenticity has been one of the most powerful decisions of my life.

Aspirations, motivation and advice

Goals

One of my biggest dreams is to continue growing as an inspirational keynote speaker. I want to use my story, experiences, and lessons to inspire young people, especially young people who may feel unseen, underestimated, or limited by their current circumstances. I want people to know that their beginnings do not define their future.

My recently launched book, Future by Design, is part of that mission. Through storytelling, leadership lessons, and practical tools, I hope to encourage others to lead themselves with purpose, resilience, and confidence.

What motivates me every day is personal growth. I love learning, evolving, and reminding myself that every single day brings new opportunities and new reasons to be grateful.

Advice

The best piece of advice that I have received is “Think about the impact you wish to create, and the legacy you wish to leave.” That advice continues to guide how I lead, how I show up, and the decisions I make about my future.

And knowing what I know now, if I could speak to the younger version of myself, I would say this:

“Do not let anyone dictate your dreams. Do not allow your current circumstances, job, or environment to limit what is possible for your life. Dream bigger than your fears — but also make sure you have a plan and are willing to do the work.”
