Last week, ProWoc welcomed Samantha Almon Adeluwoye, Global Director of Content and Social Media at Maersk. This event was expertly moderated by ProWoc member, SteffĂ Dexter Miranda.

What does it take to build a career that lasts? For many early- and mid-career professionals, the pressure is constant: move faster, reach the next title, achieve more. But too much focus on short-term wins can leave us depleted — and unprepared for the challenges ahead.

The session cut through the noise about “hustle” and gave career professionals something more useful: a blueprint for building a career that lasts.

The message was simple: fire creates momentum, but fuel creates longevity.

Key insights from Samantha:

“If fire is the spark, fuel is the system.” Fire gets attention but burns fast. Fuel is intentional and keeps you moving for the long haul.

“What I don’t know, I can definitely learn.” Long-term growth comes from curiosity, not comfort.

“You have to pace yourselves. Fuel needs replenishment. We are not machines.” Sustainable success requires boundaries and investment in your well-being.

Don’t rely on one skill set. Diversify and grow with purpose rather than spreading yourself thin.

Choose impact over volume and lean into the authority you already have.

The professionals who thrive are the ones who invest in systems, energy, mindset, and continuous learning. That is the shift from fire to fuel.

đŸȘžReflections: What feels meaningful to you? What fuels your ambition to keep you well rounded as an individual?

  • Go for impact, rather than numbers.
  • Consider what it will take to grow
  • Lean into your role and embrace your authority.

We extend heartfelt thanks to Jostein BĂždal, and the team at Villa Copenhagen for their excellence service and partnership.

A special shout-out to the ProWoc team — Nyeleti Sue-Angel Nkuna, Tracy Akpobasaa, Sondra Duckert, & Marise Larsen — for representing our community with dedication and essence.
