Introducing Christine Asmussen

My name is Christine Asmussen and I am Danish. My mother is Danish and my father is from Ghana. I have studied political science at Roskilde University and later taken a Master of Public Administration at CBS. Currently, I am studying for a Master of Business Development at CBS, which I hope to finalize before the end of this year. I have worked 10 years abroad – 6 years in Brussels and 4 years in Geneva. During my years abroad I have worked for the European Commission, the European Parliament and several NGOs. Today, I am executive director for Finansforbundet in Nordea. Finansforbundet is the trade union that organizes employees in the financial services sector. My job entails heading the secretariat, working with internationals in the finance sector as well as focusing on issues such as diversity & inclusion, handling employees’ data and dataethics as well as other items of interest to finance employees.

In my spare time I like to do yoga, fitness, go for long walks, read books and spend time with my family and friends.

What is the best piece of advice that you received?

My mother always installed in me, since I was a young girl, to become economically independent, which is the basis for any person to make free and individual choices. This has certainly inspired me in my life.

As an adult we all experience many life choices, and some of them can be very hard. In moments of my life, where I have known that a particular decision, I am about to make will have a huge impact on my life, I have calmed myself and put the question to myself: “What is the worst thing that can happen?” This reflection has often made my choices easier.

What are your plans and goals for the next year?

I will finalize my Masters Degree in Business Development this year. I am curious to see how my new degree can contribute to the next steps in my professional career.

How has your membership in ProWoC enriched your life or career?

First time I heard about ProWoc was reading an article in the DJØF magazine and I thought it was refreshing to hear the voices of professional, colored women. I reached out and became a member. For me it is important that we in ProWoc represent and communicate the professionalism and resourcefulness of coloured women. This is particularly important when discussing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in order for this not only to be a gender question.
